Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), the government agency promoting Malaysian healthcare globally, and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), a government agency leading Malaysia’s digital economy, have agreed to work together in promoting the development of digital health solutions and adoption of digital tourism in private healthcare.
According to MHTC, the strategic collaboration “underscores MHTC’s commitment to advancing Malaysia’s healthcare travel ecosystem with cutting-edge technologies and digital solutions, making the healthcare travel experience in Malaysia more seamless for travellers.”
MHTC data shows that 850,000 medical tourists travellered to Malaysia in 2022. The the most sought after treatments included cardiology, fertility, oncology, and orthopaedics.
MDEC research reveals that ICT spending in Malaysia’s healthcare sector is projected to reach US$1.2 billion by 2027, exhibiting a 20.4 percent CAGR from 2022.
MHTC and MDEC formalised their cooperation by signing an MoU at the 7th Digital Health Malaysia Conference held in Kuala Lumpur on 20-22 November. The conference’s theme focused on establishing a collaborative framework that would engage key stakeholders including policymakers, providers, and patients.
