China aims to establish over 50 national and industrial standards for AI by 2026 and develop a standard system to facilitate the high-quality development of the sector, according to guidelines published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, along with three other government entities.

The guidelines outline seven key areas for developing the AI standard system, which include standards for key technologies, intelligent products and services, and industry applications.

Official data indicates that China’s core AI industry reached a scale of over 578 billion RMB in 2023, marking a 13.9% year-on-year increase.
