Malaysia and Singapore have reaffirmed their commitment to regional health cooperation, with medical device regulatory alignment and cross-border healthcare access among the key outcomes of a bilateral meeting between the two countries’ health ministers.
Malaysian Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad met his Singaporean counterpart Ong Ye Kung in talks described as focused on strengthening strategic cooperation under an existing Memorandum of Understanding between the two governments.
A central development from the meeting was Malaysia’s endorsement of the Medical Device Regulatory Reliance Programme, a framework designed to streamline market access for medical technologies across the region by allowing regulators to draw on approvals granted by established reference agencies. The programme is intended to accelerate the availability of innovative medical devices without duplicating full regulatory review processes in each market.
No timeline was given for implementation of the measures discussed.
