King’s College Hospital London brings British medical expertise and technology to Saudi Arabia

King’s College Hospital London has officially opened its new facility in Jeddah, becoming the first British-branded hospital to operate in Saudi Arabia. The move extends a partnership between the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia in healthcare, aligning with national efforts under Vision 2030 to expand medical infrastructure and improve service quality.

The hospital, part of the King’s College Hospital London Group, brings a 180-year legacy in British medicine to the Kingdom. It is intended to introduce British clinical standards and training models to support Saudi Arabia’s broader healthcare transformation plans.

The new Jeddah facility includes departments for cardiology, orthopaedics, oncology, women’s health, paediatrics and general surgery. According to the hospital, it will integrate digital systems for patient management and post-treatment care, alongside facilities designed to improve comfort and privacy.

Dr Emad R. Sagr, Chief Medical Officer, said the hospital aims to “deliver medical care built on precision and expertise, guided by British standards in diagnosis and treatment,” adding that it seeks to contribute to the objectives of the National Health Transformation programme.

Claire Smith, Chief Executive Officer, described the hospital as part of a broader effort to create a “sustainable healthcare model” in the Kingdom, combining international medical expertise with local talent development.

The opening comes amid a wider push by Saudi Arabia to attract international investment into its healthcare sector, which has seen growing interest from foreign operators and investors. The government has been promoting partnerships designed to transfer expertise, introduce advanced technologies and increase private-sector participation in health services.

King’s College Hospital London – Jeddah is expected to act as both a clinical facility and a training hub, with British and Saudi professionals working alongside each other.
