OpenAI launches ChatGPT Health for personalised, secure health guidance

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a new platform that lets users combine their personal health information with ChatGPT’s AI to get more tailored guidance. The service is designed to help users feel informed and prepared when managing their health, while keeping sensitive data secure.

Health is one of the most common ways people use ChatGPT, with over 230 million weekly global health and wellness queries. ChatGPT Health builds on this by allowing users to securely connect medical records and wellness apps such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal. This integration aims to help users understand lab results, plan for doctor appointments, and manage diet and exercise routines.

OpenAI emphasises that ChatGPT Health does not replace medical care. Conversations are kept in a separate, secure space, with enhanced encryption and controls, and are not used to train AI models. Users can manage or delete their health data and connected apps at any time.

The platform was developed with input from over 260 physicians across 60 countries. OpenAI also created HealthBench, a framework to evaluate AI responses for safety, clarity, and clinical relevance.

Early access is currently available to a limited group outside Europe, the UK, and Switzerland, with features such as medical record integration available in the U.S. only. Apple Health integration requires iOS. OpenAI plans to expand availability to all users on web and iOS in the coming weeks. Interested users can sign up for the waitlist.
