‘AI paediatrician’ in China matches expert recommendations for complex cases

An AI pediatrician in China, developed by Beijing Children’s Hospital in partnership with technology companies, has successfully provided recommendations that closely align with those of a panel of 13 renowned experts from various departments. The AI was tested in consultations for 10 children with complex medical conditions.

The AI system functions as a clinical research assistant, enabling doctors to quickly access the latest scientific findings and authoritative guidelines, while also assisting in the diagnosis and treatment of complex and rare diseases.

Engineers input the patients’ medical records into the AI system, which then proposed treatment plans, including surgery and chemotherapy.

This AI system integrates the clinical expertise of over 300 distinguished paediatric specialists from the hospital, along with decades of high-quality medical records and data.

Before its clinical deployment on February 13, the AI paediatrician underwent nearly a month of internal testing at the hospital.
