Malaysia launches sandbox programme to create 900 AI startups

Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) has launched an AI Sandbox 2024 pilot programme aiming to produce more than 13,000 new AI professionals and 900 AI startups by 2026.

The programme, a collaboration between the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology & Innovation as lead secretariat for National Technology Innovation Sandbox and NVIDIA Corporation, seeks to foster a vibrant AI ecosystem in Malaysia in which collaboration and knowledge sharing are key, according to Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. The programme encourages open communication and the exchange of best practices, accelerating Malaysia’s AI development.

MOSTI is meanwhile on track to launching an AI code of ethics and governance guidelines by April. Developed for the public, policymakers and developers of AI technology, the guidelines outline seven principes of for ethical and safe use of AI.
