Thailand launches medical technology innovation sandbox at Mahidol University hospital

A new medical technology innovation platform has been launched in Thailand, bringing together clinical and engineering expertise to accelerate the development of personalised medical devices.

Osscentric, described as a Medical Technology Innovation Sandbox, has been established as a collaboration between OsseoLabs and the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital at Mahidol University, with support from TILSNA.

The platform is designed to bring together clinicians, engineers, and researchers within a clinical environment to co-develop medical technologies and devices. Its stated focus is on translational research — moving innovations from development into practical healthcare applications.

Osscentric will utilise a range of technologies including 3D printing, advanced materials, AI-driven surgical planning, and digital surgical simulation. The platform is intended to enable healthcare professionals to design and produce customised treatment solutions with greater precision.

The initiative has been framed with an international commercial dimension, with organisers citing an ambition to position Thai-developed medical technologies for entry into the global medtech market.

No details were provided on initial funding, specific research projects, or a timeline for commercial outputs.
