UAE-based private healthcare provider Medcare Hospitals and Medical Centers has introduced Airdoc, an AI-powered retinal image interpretation system, at Medcare Hospital Al Safa. The first of its kind in the region, the system allows clinicians to spot retina-related irregularities early on, resulting in prompt further medical investigations to confirm an accurate diagnosis.
Airdoc uses a high-resolution fundus camera to capture retinal images within a minute. The images are then analysed by the AI module, which generates comprehensive health assessment reports. These reports cover the risks of the nine most common chronic diseases and identify over 35 retina-related conditions, with more than 95% accuracy in detecting retinal abnormalities.
Conditions identified by the system include vascular issues, tumor-related abnormalities, digital radiography (DR) problems, macular diseases, myopia, suspected glaucoma, optic nerve abnormalities, vitreous issues, and various choroidal and retinal diseases or lesions.
The procedure is covered by insurance, making it accessible to a broad range of individuals.
