The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) signed an MoU on the sidelines of Arab Health 2024 in Dubai with Abu Dhabi Health Data Services (ADHDS) and pharmaceutical business MSD GCC to collaborate in assessing blockchain’s potential in healthcare to support Abu Dhabi’s vision to strengthen its healthcare ecosystem.

Following the successful implementation of Malaffi as the first Health Information Exchange in the MENA region, ADHDS is uniquely positioned to take the lead in delivering a secure blockchain infrastructure that protects the privacy and integrity of health data in Abu Dhabi, according to acting CEO Kareem Shahin, adding that the entity understands the importance of safeguarding patient information while enabling seamless data sharing for improved healthcare outcomes.

MSD GCC will contribute by providing strategic insights and leveraging its extensive experience with blockchain technology across various application areas and markets.

Separately, an MoU was signed between Philips and Health Information Exchange Malaffi, who was designated as the global reference site for the Dutch giant’s Image Exchange Solution. The agreement stems from a collaboration that began in 2022, and will ensure Abu Dhabi doctors seamless access to radiology images, impacting the quality of care and patient outcomes.
